Lots of trying out ideas, focusing on the body this time.
In the end, my main focus ended up being how to best implement the wing and how it would fly with it.
To simplify my thoughts: I don't know if it makes much sense to have the arm bend like a bird wing, while having the body of a mammal, with the hand of a kangaroo. I don't want the body to get too long, but still have enough surface between the legs to generate enough upswing.
I tried to read up on how animal shoulders work, but it's a lot of knowledge to digest.
Soooooo, I had some sort of art lesson with Onyrica (Twitter) about how to best improve my art. She made some nice remarks based on my latest sketches and recommended to just practice very different head shapes, get the basic forms down, before going over to the body.
That was almost 3 weeks ago... and finally I could kick my ass to do more studies. This time concentrating on different head shapes!
The lion was the only reference I had to draw over to understand how to get the size of the muzzle correct, to see the angles and perspective better. At least I hoped.
Pretty satisfied with the results, but each one had a small change in perspective... and Caracals don't have such a strong angle from snout to forehead >.<
Springbock horns were a pain. But I realized... my previous sona's headshape was... a goat, lol. With smaller ears and a long bottom jaw. Never considered that...
Tried out some different stuff for once... then made a deep dig into anatomy of many different animals.
I found out that Kangaroos are actually pretty interesting o:
Also while that one on two legs looks weird, it's better than I'd have thought I'd manage. Still has its issues tho.
And the one on the top was supposed to be a half backview of a bipedal version that can still walk on all fours... but I was struggling with perspective a lot there and just stopped when I lost interest to redraw the body for a third time.
Some more practice dump... I was too tired to continue and began just scribbling without paying much attention, so I stopped overall.
Some more concepts I sketched out.
I really liked the legs and body on the first one
And I really like the head on the second one
Both needs to be more consistent
Some wolf face practices while gaming with friends. I can see improvements!
I'm trying to dedicate 30-60 minutes per day to some quick studies now. Most of the time was spent on .. searching for refs and social media.
Not happy with these studies, thick lines represent areas that I recognized as very wrong and tried to paint over how I would fix it.
